Uses and benefits of castor oil

Odorless castor oil has been used in beauty treatments for ages. It was also once widely used to prevent constipation. Regular use of castor oil keeps hair healthy and smooth. It also keeps the skin beautiful and soft. Learn about some of the benefits and uses of castor oil. 

1. Castor oil as a moisturizer 
is a rich source of fatty acids that act as a great moisturizer. This oil can take care of the skin during winters. You can use this oil to treat cracked cuticles, dry heels, chapped lips or any skin that needs extra moisture. 

2. Castor oil can be safely used to treat dry and brittle hair. Some studies have shown that healthy hair growth is stimulated when castor oil is massaged into the scalp, eyebrows, or eyelashes. Castor oil thickens hair because it is rich in omega-6 fatty acids. 

3. Castor oil can keep us away from annoying and embarrassing dandruff. For dry dandruff, mix one tablespoon of castor oil, one tablespoon of olive oil and half a lemon juice and apply it to your hair. For oily dandruff, mix one tablespoon of castor oil, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and half a lemon juice. Leave the mixture on your hair for 30 minutes and then wash it off with shampoo. 

4. Muscle Pain : Exercise can often cause muscle pain. Castor oil can help reduce this pain. Lightly apply castor oil to a flannel cloth and place it over the muscle. Use a heating pad on a medium setting and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. 

5. Reduce stomach inflammation: The ricinoleic acid in castor oil helps in easing the contraction of the stomach muscles. Use a castor oil pack on the stomach along with a heating pad. This will help in reducing stomach cramps and inflammation. 

6. Castor oil is an effective anti-fungal for skin problems : This oil works great for ringworm or some allergies. Rub it on the affected area with your palm. However, if the problem does not resolve, you must consult a doctor.

7. For pest control, apply a mixture of castor oil mixed with water and dishwashing liquid directly to the areas where there is a lot of pest infestation. You can also mix chili powder and garlic powder in this mixture. Pests will be eliminated.
