How to keep apples fresh

Health experts recommend eating apples daily, which are rich in fiber and various beneficial minerals. Even if there are children at home, apples are bought in large quantities. However, after a few days, problems such as rotting or drying of certain parts of the apple occur. Such problems can also occur if you keep them in the refrigerator. If you want to keep apples fresh for up to two weeks, know some important tips.

  1. Do not store apples with other fruits. Wrap each apple separately in newspaper or paper towels. Then store in the refrigerator. Apples release ethylene gas, which causes apples to rot quickly. Storing them this way reduces the amount of ethylene gas released.
  2. Apples are best at temperatures between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius. Apples will stay good for one to two weeks if kept at this temperature in the refrigerator.
  3. If it's not too hot and you have difficulty keeping it in the fridge, you can wrap the apples in paper and store them in a basket. But keep them in a dark place. Apples spoil quickly in sunlight.
  4. Do not store apples in plastic bags. This increases the risk of them spoiling quickly.
  5. Do not place apples near potatoes. Potatoes release a type of gas that can harm apples.
  6. Cut apples turn brown quickly. To preserve the quality of the apples, do not mix cut apples with whole apples. Store cut apples separately.
  7. Apples can also be stored in the freezer. This will increase their shelf life, but the taste may change. If you want to make a dessert or smoothie with apples, you can use cold apples from the freezer.
