How long does cooked rice stay good in the fridge?

We keep the extra rice left over after eating in the fridge. But do you know how long this rice stays good in the fridge? There is also a specific way to heat up cold rice in the fridge. Find out the details.

Cooked rice can be stored in the refrigerator for four to six days, says Keith R. Snyder, a food safety professor and researcher at the University of Florida. But how long rice will last in the refrigerator depends on a number of factors. The correct answer to this question depends on how it was cooked, how long it was at room temperature, and even the type of container you put it in. Cooking a full rice cooker's worth of rice and storing it in a small box won't keep it for very long. If you're elderly or pregnant, don't keep rice in the refrigerator for more than two to four days.

If the rice has a strong odor or is visibly discolored, do not eat it. Similarly, do not eat rice that looks hard and dry after taking it out of the refrigerator.

If you heat rice from the fridge properly, it tastes just like fresh rice. Sprinkle a little water on top before heating it in the microwave. If you want to heat it on the stove, you can heat the rice in a pan with a little cooking oil or butter. Add some water while heating. However, do not heat rice taken out of the fridge repeatedly. Heat it properly and eat it immediately.
