How to get rid of rice beetles

The rainy season seems to be going on forever. The sky is raining every two days. In the damp weather, insects easily take hold of rice. If you want to keep your rice insect-free, follow some tips.

  • Always store rice in a closed container. It is better to store it in a large steel drum instead of using plastic. This keeps the rice fresher.
  • When storing rice, put a few neem leaves or bay leaves in the drum. Insects will not come.
  • Leave a few cloves of garlic, including the peel, in the rice. Replace the cloves when they dry out. The sulfur in garlic helps keep insects away.
  • Throw a few cloves in the rice. The rice will be free of insects.
  • Leaving a matchbox in a rice drum also reduces the risk of insect attack. This is because matchboxes also contain sulfur, the smell of which keeps insects away.
  • Even putting a few dried chilies in a container will get rid of the insects.
  • Occasionally expose the rice to the hot sun. Insects will not attack it.
  • Fragrant rice is more prone to insects. Keep this type of rice in the refrigerator.
